I love art and I love computers. But, i don't know how hard or what positions are there for a career. Advice?
I want some information from people who know about anything in the animation, graphic arts, design, computer animation, web design..etc. This is what i wanna do..but i'm scared i'll be freelancing forever! I live in NY (competivness) anyone have ANY information/advice?
Freelancing is tough. Try it out though. See if you can get by. I have a teaching job at the same time which helps.
I've never thought I could make a stable living from freelancing but it's what I enjoy so it has to be done. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who make a stable living from it.
I started out doing freebies for people. I've done logos and websites for free – for charity events. You can get good contacts this way. Also build up your portfolio with actual work. Also, you can check out whether you want to work in a specific area of creative arts before you spend too much time and money on it.
I do illustration and one of my oldest mates works for a business journal. He has sent a lot of work my way. Hopefully you have friends who can help you out.
I do my illustration all on the computer with a graphics tablet. I hardly use paper anymore.
Btw, I didn't study illustration at all, I just set out to do it. I've been very lucky and perseverance pays off.
Hope this helps and good luck.

If you are creative and you have the skill, there is nothing to worry about.
Experience will make you good in this field. So if you won't start now, when will you become good at it?
Jump out from that box of fears. If you are passionate with what you do you won't feel working at all… but enjoying life.
And also, ask yourself on what defines your happiness? Is it earning big or doing what you love to do?
If you ask around, you'll find out that those who are successful in their field just started with the love and passion in what there were doing.

This does sound like a tough one, I suppose if you live in a populated city that has a demand for this it will work, or if you don't re locate.
